Seriously?

I was teasing and playing with my littlest granddaughter. She is four. She suddenly turned to me. Her turn had attitude from the position of her head to her toes and included a hang gesture found in teenagers. I know because I’ve seen our thirteen-year-old granddaughter do it. The hand is flattened and goes down in full on sass. And the eye roll!

The little one said, “Seriously, Mimi!”

I see that little love of a brown-eyed girl and the sass from her thirteen-year-old sister in that sass, and then I see her mama. If I am honest with myself, I will see myself in her too. Little by little, generation after generation, we sass. We think we know it all.

This morning, giggling at the thought of her, I soberly realize that little by little, generation after generation, we do that to God. We think we know it all.

We have a heart issues. Seriously, we have the matter of “teshuvah” (i.e., returning to God). We do not want to turn back to God. Little by little, generation after generation we drift farther and farther away from Him.

I played a game with my four-year-old granddaughter. Her response was appropriate and funny. But life is not a game with God. It is not appropriate or pleasing or good to sass or turn away from Him because when you do, that is when your deep heart issues begin!

Book Of Life

Lesson on the Book of Life (this was written for an online class)

I thought I would start small and then work my way up. That way I can see if I should break the lesson up into sections so that folks can do them at their own pace. I looked around on FB, and long lengthy writing were too much for me. It was easy to get lost. This lesson was prepared for my two neighbor ladies who were questioning the Book of Life and asked me lots of questions. I explained verbally, but they wanted more. Three hours at a kitchen table later this lesson was written. So, I’ve adapted it to our new online class as a “test” of how this will work or not work. Enjoy! (I don’t know if you want to make a mark, hit like, or write done or something to let me know where you are. It may help you to keep track of where you are.) Hopefully, when you get a moment, you can open FB, read the next section and chew on it a while. I just love how God will teach me something, and I chew on it and just when I get it, He adds more. Open to suggestions and comments and or questions!!

So here are a few notes on the subject of the Book of Life. God is so good, and when you have a real relationship with Him, you also have an eternal future with Him. Nothing you do gets your name into the Book of Life because Jesus and Jesus alone has paid your sin debt and set you free. It’s like the movie quote from Dr. Strange, “It’s not about you.” Hopefully, you won’t go nuts with my silliness. God works in mysterious ways…in me lol.

It’s not about “how you get your name in the Lamb’s Book of Life” but how you respond to Jesus who has already written your name in His book. You need to use that free will of yours and accept His gift of salvation. His name is Jesus (which means salvation)! -Shahe

Book of Life/Lamb’s Book of Life (Biblos tēs zōēs)

Biblos is Greek for scrolls, record, papers, book, roll, or volume, sometimes with a sacred connotation.

2222 zōḗ – life (physical and spiritual). All life (2222 /zōḗ), throughout the universe, is derived – i.e., it always (only) comes from and is sustained by God’s self-existent life. The Lord intimately shares His gift of life with people, creating each in His image which gives all the capacity to know His eternal life.

The Book of Life has been taught in many ways. I just go by what the actual words say in my Bible. I try not to put in my own opinion or the commentaries of someone else. Some believe your name gets written in the Book of Life for eternity when you accept Jesus. But that is not what the words in the Bible say.

Your name was written in the Book of Life from the foundation of the earth. Your name is in there because God wrote it in the book when He knew He would create you. It will stay in there for your whole life on earth. You are in there because of Him. You stay in there because of Him.

When you live out your life on this earth, you have a choice to make. To you, who is Jesus?

If you accept Jesus, then your name remains in the Book of Life. However, if you reject Jesus, then your name is “blotted” out and is removed from the Book of Life.

Some verses to study for the “Book of Life.”

Philippians 4:3, “Indeed, true companion, I ask you also to help these women who have shared my struggle in the cause of the gospel, together with Clement also and the rest of my fellow workers, whose names are in the book of life.”

Book of Life, this verse specifically shows that believers (those who respond to the Gospel) have and will keep their names in the Book of Life.

Revelation 3:5, “He who overcomes will thus be clothed in white garments; and I will not erase his name from the book of life, and I will confess his name before My Father and before His angels.”

Book of Life, specifically notice the word “overcomes.” Overcomers are overcomers ONLY by Yeshua Ha Mashiach (Jesus the Messiah).

Overcomer 3528 nikáō(from 3529 /níkē, “victory”) – properly, conquer (overcome); ” ‘to carry off the victory, come off victorious.’ The verb implies a battle.” We overcome, and we are victorious because of Jesus.

Also, notice “erase.” Erase is the word exaleipsō.

Erase 1813 eksaleíphō (from 1537 /ek, “wholly out from,” intensifying 218 /aleíphō, “smear”) – properly, to rub (smear) out, i.e., completely remove (wipe away); obliterate; remove totally from a previous state with the outcome of being blotted out (erased).

Writing Rev. 3:5 with words added in to explain.

“He who overcomes (to conquer, prevails because of Jesus) will thus be clothed (Romans 13:14, rather clothe yourselves in the Lord Jesus Christ) in white garments (made clean/pure by Him/righteous by His Righteousness); and I (Jesus) will not erase (blot out, as in his name is in the book) his name from the book of life, and I (Jesus) will confess his name (acknowledge, recognize) before My Father (God) and before His (Father God’s) angels.”

Book of Life, this verse shows that those who overcome by Jesus will already have their names in the Book of Life but that Jesus Himself promises that He will not blot out the overcomer’s name and even go further and confess his name to Father God. It also shows the contrast. All names are in the Book of Life, but those who do not accept Jesus and the victory that He provides through salvation will be erased or blotted out. Think of the Harry Potter’s character, Hermione Granger when she erased her parent’s memory of her, she said, “Obliterate.” Now I am the first to say no pagan, no magic, but you get the idea. You are created, named, loved and given a choice to live out eternity in the love of the One who created you.

Revelation 13:8, “All who dwell on the earth will worship him (the beast), everyone whose name has not been written from the foundation of the world in the book of life of the Lamb who has been slain.”

I know what you are thinking. Didn’t I just contradict myself from the last verse? But the answer is no. God’s Word never contradicts itself. There are a couple of key phrases. “All who dwell on the earth” and “worship him (the beast).” All people created will identify as to belonging to “this world/flesh/against God” or as to belonging to “heaven/God/with God/Salvation.”

It’s defined or decided based on “who you worship.” God is all knowing and knows that those who worship this world and the beast of this world, belong to this world and their names will not be found in the Lamb’s Book of Life.

Here we need to understand a key concept to make sure that we do NOT fall to the false teachings of predestination.

First God, desires that all mankind come to faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. He created us all, and He created a way for all of us as sinners to live out eternity with a Holy God. He loves us all equally. He also created us with the ability to respond or reject His offer of eternity. Eternity’s offer is Jesus; there is no other way.

Predestination is NOT God has decided ahead of time some to be in heaven and some not to be in heaven. Don’t forget John 3:16. (I personally intimately know and understand this one because of my own testimony and experience, long story, I could write a book, lol).

Predestination means God has seen it, so it will come to be. God has seen/marked ahead of time, based on God’s foreknowledge. Predestination and God’s foreknowledge are related. He is not limited, we are.

Predetermined in Greek is “Horizo” which means determine, appoint, decree, designate, separate, mark off by boundaries, and appoint. Foreknowledge in Greek is “prognosis” meaning previously determined “God’s absolute foreknowledge.”

Predestination applies only to believers, those who choose Jesus. They have responded to and received the Gospel.

We all have the opportunity to respond or reject Jesus.

Reading the above verse, you have to look at the context and where we are in the Book of Revelation. God is showing the Apostle John, through a vision, the events to come in the future. This verse is future written in that at the point of chapter 13 it is known if you are a “dwell on earth” or “dwell in heaven.” Look at the verses above this one. The beast blasphemes the Lord and those who “dwell in heaven” meaning belong and have chosen the Lord’s side of the conflict. The enemy’s goal is to steal, kill, and destroy the individual creations (mankind) of God. He wants to steal, kill, destroy their futures in Christ Jesus.

Revelation 13:8 is a future verse that is speaking about the future and the past, “whose names have not been found” meaning, the reader is being shown that if you “dwell on earth” and “worship the beast” then you will not be known by Jesus when His Book of Life (Note the specific change from Book of Life to the Book of Life of the Lamb). He owns the book and everyone that is in it. He knows, recognizes, acknowledges those that belong to Him. Those that do not, “I never knew you.”

That change from I knew you to I never knew you is based on our response to the Gospel. God always knows everything and everyone. When you accept Jesus, God chooses not to remember your sins because of Jesus.

Revelation 17:8, “The beast that you saw was, and is not, and is about to come up out of the abyss and go to destruction. And those who dwell on the earth, whose name has not been written in the book of life from the foundation of the world, will wonder when they see the beast, that he was and is not and will come.”

Notice “Book of Life is from the foundation of the world.” This phrase was also in the Rev. 13:8 verse.

**Key concept to always remember – all created-all names listed-but, not all will accept Jesus. (But is a contrast word.)

Foundation 2602 katabolḗ (from 2596 /katá, “exactly according to,” down from the most general to the most specific detail, “following all the way along,” and 906 /bállō, “to cast”) – properly, a foundation, cast according to a blueprint (original design); the substructure which determines the entire direction (destination) of all that follows; the foundation-plan, upon which the entire super-structure is built; (figuratively) the beginning (founding) that purposefully designs all that follows.

World 2889 kósmos (literally, “something ordered“) – properly, an “ordered system” (like the universe, creation); the world.

Notice that “kósmos” is ORDERED and not chaos! God is a God of order. I love this. I’ve always thought of the wacky cosmos as being chaos but not ordered. This is one of my favorite word studies. God is so good!

Book of Life, has all names written in it from the beginning of the world. Every person created has their name in that book. We have the opportunity to submit to God, accept His Son’s gift of salvation OR reject God, and reject salvation. Those names will be blotted out of the book. And that is part of the “Depart from Me, I never knew you.”

Matthew 7:23, “And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; DEPART FROM ME, YOU WHO PRACTICE LAWLESSNESS.’”

Revelation 20:11-15, Then I saw a great white throne and Him who sat upon it, from whose presence earth and heaven fled away, and no place was found for them. And I saw the dead, the great and the small, standing before the throne, and books were opened; and another book was opened, which is the book of life; and the dead were judged from the things which were written in the books, according to their deeds. And the sea gave up the dead which were in it, and death and Hades gave up the dead which were in them; and they were judged, every one of them according to their deeds. Then death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. This is the second death, the lake of fire. And if anyone’s name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.”

At the point of a person’s death of their flesh, or death in this world, one of two things happen:

  1. if they reject Jesus as their Lord and Savior, then their name is “blotted out” of the Book of Life.
  2. if they have accepted Jesus as their Lord and Savior then their names remain (never to be erased-Greek/blotted out-Hebrew).

Notice the timeline, John sees the great white throne (judgment). All who reject Jesus and His gift of salvation will stand before the great white (pure, holy) throne. Believers will not stand before the great white throne judgment. Believers will be judged but (contrast word) differently than non-believers.

The Book of Life is opened. Those that rejected Jesus on earth have had their names already blotted out of the Book of Life. Their names will not be found in the Book of Life. They will be judged by their own deeds without the blood of Jesus. They will stand before a Holy God “wretched, miserable, poor, blind, and naked.” Their unholiness will be evident.

Often in the Bible when you see the word “fire,” it pertains to judgment. Hebrews 9:27, “And in as much as it is appointed for men to die once and after this comes judgment.”

Those whose names are NOT found in the Lamb’s Book of Life will suffer judgment. They will be thrown (cast) into the lake of fire (lake of judgment). This is their second death, the death of their spirit, they will now live eternally without God. Alive but dead in their spirit. A fate we pray for no one to know (Hebrew, yada-intimately know and understand, experience) in Christ Jesus’ powerful Name!

I can’t help but think of the words of the song, “I Will Sing Of My Redeemer.”

Revelation 21:27, “and nothing unclean, and no one who practices abomination and lying, shall ever come into it, but only those whose names are written in the Lamb’s book of life.”

The word “but” is a contrast word. Nothing unclean, no abomination, no liar shall come into it (new Jerusalem, Rev. 21:2 which is the dwelling of God with man Rev. 21:3) BUT only clean, pure, truth, etc.

In the timeline of the Book of Revelation, the great white throne judgment has already happened. This verse is found in the New Jerusalem. No one’s name, who is found in the Book of Life at this point in the order of God’s plan will be “unrighteous” because those people who did not accept Jesus and His Righteousness have experienced their second death in the lake of fire. The names that remain in the Lamb’s Book of Life have been there since the beginning of the foundations of the earth. Remained there not to be blotted out. In there because of the righteousness of Jesus.

Praise the Lord, praise the Lord that nothing I did or accomplish, I have or have not of my own ability, talent or skill had anything to do with my name being written in the Book of Life based on my works, deeds, words, skills, talents, or accomplishments.

My name is there because Jesus put it there and I later accepted His gift of salvation which kept it from being blotted out of the book. Praise the Lord, Oh my soul! It is well, with my soul. My soul has peace (In Hebrew, “Shalom” which means peace, wellness, well-being, soundness, health, safety, prosperity, wholeness, and completeness.)

Confidence that our names are in the book because of being a follower/believer in Christ Jesus can be found in:

Matthew 10:22, “You will be hated by all because of My name, but it is the one who has endured to the end who will be saved.”

Mark 13:13, “You will be hated by all because of My name, but the one who endures to the end, he will be saved.”

Galatians 6:6-9, “The one who is taught the word is to share all good things with the one who teaches him. Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, this he will also reap. For the one who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life. Let us not lose heart in doing good, for in due time we will reap if we do not grow weary.

An example in the Old Testament of “blotting out” and “name remembered no more.”

Exodus 17:14, “Then the LORD said to Moses, “Write this in a book as a memorial and recite it to Joshua, that I will utterly blot out the memory of Amalek from under heaven.”

Blot out, Hebrew “machah.” To blot (12), blotted (11), destroys (1), utterly blot (1), wash off (1), wipe (1), wipe…away (1), wiped (1), wipes (3), wiping (1).

Exodus 32:32 specifically, but here is Exodus 32:30-35 for context, “On the next day Moses said to the people, “You yourselves have committed a great sin; and now I am going up to the LORD, perhaps I can make atonement for your sin.” Then Moses returned to the LORD, and said, “Alas, this people has committed a great sin, and they have made a god of gold for themselves. “But now, if You will, forgive their sin—and if not, please blot me out from Your book which You have written!” The LORD said to Moses, “Whoever has sinned against Me, I will blot him out of My book. “But go now, lead the people where I told you. Behold, My angel shall go before you; nevertheless in the day when I punish, I will punish them for their sin.” Then the LORD smote the people, because of what they did with the calf which Aaron had made.”

Blot out, Hebrew “machah.” To blot (12), blotted (11), destroys (1), utterly blot (1), wash off (1), wipe (1), wipe…away (1), wiped (1), wipes (3), wiping (1).

Deuteronomy 25:6, “It shall be that the firstborn whom she bears shall assume the name of his dead brother, so that his name will not be blotted out from Israel.” (Example of inheritance and a person’s name with regard to inheritance and being included in God’s plan.)

Blot out, Hebrew “machah.” To blot (12), blotted (11), destroys (1), utterly blot (1), wash off (1), wipe (1), wipe…away (1), wiped (1), wipes (3), wiping (1).

Deuteronomy 25:19, “Therefore it shall come about when the LORD your God has given you rest from all your surrounding enemies, in the land which the LORD your God gives you as an inheritance to possess, you shall blot out the memory of Amalek from under heaven; you must not forget.”

Blot out, Hebrew “machah.” To blot (12), blotted (11), destroys (1), utterly blot (1), wash off (1), wipe (1), wipe…away (1), wiped (1), wipes (3), wiping (1).

Amalek was a descendant of Esau, he was an enemy of Israel, therefore an enemy against the God of Israel.

Psalm 9:5, “You have rebuked the nations, You have destroyed the wicked; You have blotted out their name forever and ever.”

Blot out, Hebrew “machah.” To blot (12), blotted (11), destroys (1), utterly blot (1), wash off (1), wipe (1), wipe…away (1), wiped (1), wipes (3), wiping (1).

Psalm 109:13, “Let his posterity be cut off; In a following generation let their name be blotted out.”

Blot out, Hebrew “machah.” To blot (12), blotted (11), destroys (1), utterly blot (1), wash off (1), wipe (1), wipe…away (1), wiped (1), wipes (3), wiping (1).

Psalm 69:27-28, “Add iniquity to their iniquity, and may they not come into Your righteousness. May they be blotted out of the book of life and may they not be recorded with the righteous.”

Blot out, Hebrew “machah.” To blot (12), blotted (11), destroys (1), utterly blot (1), wash off (1), wipe (1), wipe…away (1), wiped (1), wipes (3), wiping (1).

Book in Hebrew “Sepher” Life in Hebrew “Chai”

There are lots of other Bible verses, but this gives you the main idea! You want to respond to Jesus. You want to be known by Him by name. You want to be marked out for eternity! God is so good!

I was praying about this online group Bible study. I’m hungry for the Word of God, and I know others are too! As I was praying about which book of the Bible to start with based on your suggestions, the most votes are for Revelation so that is where we will go first. I woke up this morning with God prompting me to “test” with this lesson. It is a great segway into Revelation. All that to say, God highlighted to me that truth is precious and we should only learn the truth. All of us, me included! So go at your pace. And that will give me time to work on chapter one of Revelation. Grace and peace to you in Jesus’ Name! -Shahe Nahler

Thankful That I Am Not A Calvinist!

Thankful that I am NOT a “Calvinist!”
It’s taken me all week to undo what one Calvinist was trying to teach me earlier this week. Don’t eat someone else’s meal of the Bible. It has already been chewed by them. Why would I want to eat what someone else has already chewed? There is no nutrition there! Eww! Besides, it is so wonderful all by itself and full of nourishment if you partake of it yourself.
If someone says, “Where do you find that in the Bible?” It’s a legitimate question. They want to “know” how you came up with what you just taught them. If your answer is,”Get a John MacArthur commentary.” UGH! The answer is never “to go to a human being commentary.” There are only imperfect human beings writing those commentaries. They only know what they know and what they know might be wrong. I think I will stick with The Author’s version!
The answer is a Bible verse reference, and then another and another. Go to the Bible and point them to the Bible. The Bible is the ultimate “go-to” to solve all your questions! The Word of God does not contradict itself. It’s can’t. You just have to “know” your Bible. You have to open it, read it, and memorize it. You have to think on it-chew it for a while and get a good taste of it. And the kicker, you have to listen to it (In Hebrew, the word for listen is the word shema which means hear AND obey). You have to apply it to your life. You have never learned anything until you apply what you have learned. How else will you know if you have learned it?
The Bible is perfect. It is the inspired Word of God. It can stand on its own and convict your wrongness too! It can lift you up and discipline you. It can teach you where you need to improve and help you in ways that you will wrestle with but in the end…He wins. He always does.
Nope, not a John Calvin fan. Nope, not a John MacArthur fan. Ok, as long as I’m offending people, not a John Piper fan either. Wait…see a pattern? Now the Apostle John, that’s good stuff, people! God’s Word can be in this day and age manipulated and falsely taught. Be careful out there because some of the stuff folks are selling comes up short! I pray you have the discernment to know that!
Someone this week told me that they have a friend who has read their Bible twice and doesn’t understand it. When offered another Bible to read, they turned it down. Without knowing anything else about this person, I know that they do not want to respond to the Word of God.
Reading your Bible is a gift. It is like a musical instrument. When you first pick it up, you will NOT make music. You will make scratchy sounds and a whole lot of wrong notes. You may even offend your neighbors and put it down because you can’t immediately succeed with it. Lots of people pick up an instrument and try it out for a while. Few stick with it long enough to learn how to play it. You can learn to read your Bible like learning to play an instrument. With prayer and the gift of salvation, you can ask the Holy Spirit to help you. And in time you will be playing beautiful music together.
In fact, I’ve found that I play best when I play along with the music that the Holy Spirit is already playing. It sounds better when I join His song instead of trying to get Him to play along with mine. Any musician knows that when you surrender to the music, that’s the sweet spot. You stop with all the details and you just enjoy. Enjoying who you play with is like a relationship with the Holy Spirit. Enjoying playing your instrument is like when you know your Bible.
May you know the ultimates sweet spot…Jesus! –
And for the record, JMc’A’s answer was wrong! My Bible told me so!

I am the author of a three book series, all are about God changing me from my way to His way! Life is a process, people!  A journey to walk out with God and it’s always better when God is in you and you have a relationship with Him. That way, His way, you never walk out your faith journey alone but with Him!

You can also visit my website at www.shahesart.com for travel photos and Bible lessons, photography, and artwork.

My prayer for you is to have a real relationship with Jesus and as you grow in the grace and knowledge of Him that you share Him with others so that they can have that gift too!

Now to celebrate my most wonderful God! Joshua Aaron “How Great is Our God.”  I can’t help but sing when He shows up!

Are You From Smyrna?

Did you know that there are twenty places in the United States with a city named Smyrna?  These states include Alabama, Arkansas, Deleware, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Louisianna, Michigan, Mississippi, Nebraska, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, and Washington. There is also a city of Smyrna in Mexico and Turkey. I want to concentrate on the one in Turkey.

It’s listed as part of the seven churches in the Book of Revelation. Back in the days when the Book of Revelation was written, the congregation of believers that were in Smyrna encountered a city that was full of idolatry.

Idolatry is to worship anything other than the One True God. The outcome of idolatry is to put your focus on something other than God. When your focus is on something else that is not God, then you leave behind God’s ways, and you substitute in your ways. Idolatry is the opposite of God’s way. Idolatry is its own way. Each person that participates in idolatry participates in their own way.

If there are one million people on the planet, then there are one million different people on the planet which has the potential for one million different “ways.” One million different ways mean that there are one million different opinions, one million different actions, one million different voices, one million different fill in the blank, folks…one million different places that we are each in and that is where we are in the world today.

We are going in one million different directions.

But (a word meaning contrast). But, if we belong to God, then we go in His direction. We may be different people with different “everythings,” but in Christ Jesus and because of Christ Jesus if we give up our own ways for His ways, then we will be united in the direction our way is going. We will all go and do and be in His way. It called unity. And we have forgotten what unity looks like.

We have forgotten the freedom of unity. In unison, work that needs to be can be done can be done faster and better. In unison, ideas to solve problems can be greater and stronger. In unison, we are not fighting for our own way but using that strength and energy for a greater good-God’s good. We don’t waste our resources but in unison combine them and the combination can be beautiful and beneficial to many.

But that is not the direction we are going. We are heading to the city of Smyrna. In Smyrna, people are all about their own ways. They are independent. They want their own will to be done. They want their own things to achieve, and they have their own agendas. Unity is not in Smyrna. Disunity is.

If you tell people in Smyrna about the truth of the Word of God, then it will not sit well with them. The truth of Jesus will cause them to have a lack of peace, and it causes a conviction in their spirit. God is Truth and God is Light. If you live in Smyrna (idolatry) then you don’t want truth and you don’t want light. You want your own truth and your own light. You want what makes you happy (even if it is just temporary). You live for the moment (instead of for the future). You want instant gratification (even if it is the wrong thing for you).

You want your own way which is to not change from your way to God’s way. You don’t like God-changes in Smyrna! So you push away those Jesus people in your life that remind you of God, His truth and His light. If you have pride in yourself, then you have a nice looking house in Smyrna, and you have gotten very comfortable there.

The Greek word for “one’s own” is idios. The word ídios (“uniquely one’s own”) is “stronger than the simple possessive pronoun (‘own’). This emphatic adjective means ‘private, personal.‘ ” It’s not hard to say either, it sounds a lot like idiot!

Sure have it “your own way…idios!”

For example, smoking those cigarettes now because you want to look cool is having your own rebellious way! You need those things. You focus on the next time you can have one. They take over your time, resources and eventually life. Yes, life. You will be sick…eventually. You will have a form of a disease that will kill you…in time. You have an addiction that controls you, but you won’t admit it because you lie to yourself and say, “I’ve got this.” But in reality, your gonna die because of the consequences of your own way. Your own sin. You could repent and quit now! Allow for your body to heal and not suffer the ultimate consequence of death but….you’ve got time, you can do it next week. It won’t happen to me kind of thing. You want to live in the darkness and not acknowledge that your way is called sin and it will lead to death.

I’ve never smoked. I watched my grandfather’s addiction and his health consequences, and he died from having his own way. Nope. Won’t touch it!

If a believer like the believers in Smyrna shared the truth of God with those, who live in darkness and told them that there is a way to live in the Light of God. What do you think they would say? Let’s use the cigarettes and smoking as an example.

They would say “How dare you!” “You can’t tell me what’s right or wrong!” “How dare you judge me!” “You need to be a better Christian and go and read what your book says because YOU are not living like a Christian! Where is your love and grace and mercy?!?!?!?”

Mr. Richard (the pastor that I’ve worked for over 20 years now) has a saying. “If you turn on the light, the cockroaches will scatter!” Just like cockroaches, sin likes the darkness. It hides in darkness. Its author is the king of darkness.

If God sends you the truth, you can do one of two things. Be wise and repent of your sin or be unwise and remain in it. Spiritually speaking, one way (the wise God-way) will bring you life. The other way (your own way) will manifest (be made known in you) by your conflicts, hardships, anger, frustration, disunity, bondage, and yes, it will bring you death.

The truth will set you free in Christ Jesus! Why? Because Jesus destroys the “selfish life” that we want to build for ourselves and replaces it with an eternal life. It may not look like the worldly party that we want. It’s not made up of fancy meals, cars, clothes or worldly things. It’s not about who we know or what we do for a living. It’s not about us! It’s about positioning ourselves to be in Messiah Yeshua to be made new in Him and to be used by Him for His plans, His ways, and His purposes.

So are you from Smyrna? Do you live there? We all do! The lesson in the Book of Revelation about the church of Smyrna is for all believers. We can be non-believers and be idolators and do our own things and ways.

Or we can be believers in Christ Jesus and do things God’s ways. This means it will be hard. You will be persecuted. You will be picked on for being different. You will be afflicted. You will be outcasted. You will have to be patient and persevere! But you will LIVE!

He promises that! You, the authentic believer in Jesus, get to claim the promise given to the believers in Smyrna because you both have “ears to hear what the Spirit says.”

“He who overcomes will not be hurt by the second death.” Revelation 2:11

That means the person in Messiah, because of Messiah will not be judged by Messiah at the Great White Throne Judgment in which all of those people on earth that wanted to live “their own distinct way” those idios folks will be standing in front of a Most Holy God, and they will be unprepared to defend their own way.

We are in the days, people! We are being “threshed” to see if we have fruit or if we blow away like chaff. We want to be gathered up by HIM and not burned away!

Our lives and our sinful ways are being exposed in the Light of Jesus now because we are given time to REPENT and turn from our old, wicked ways to His new and holy ways.

We are to be positioned to be prepared for those days that are coming. We want to be in His Light and share His light with others so that they too can be prepared in Jesus for what is to come.

We want to minister to the Menorah, the lampstand, in the temple. The temple of God is in each of us when we have a relationship with Him. We are a royal priesthood because of Jesus, and we need to learn to minister to, serve the Light of the World by keeping our individual lamp full of oil (the Holy Spirit) and our wicks trimmed so that evil cannot snuff out the light. We want our light which is His Light to shine so that others see Messiah in us and they too wish to have “that” what they can’t put the right word on their tongue. Be prepared to help them along and tell them “Yeshua! Jesus! Salvation!”

Intimacy with God! You will know His voice, and His voice is the only one you should listen to in these coming days as the millions of idios voices get louder and louder!

May you know that you know that you know Jesus. Amen!-Shahe Nahler

The Proof Is In The Pudding!

It’s quiet this morning. I’ve been praying a lot. I have a lot of work to do, and yet I hear the noise in the background. Joe is watching television. He made me a wonderful breakfast, and he is off in the living room, and I can hear what he is watching.

Commercial one was for a diet program. If you buy their service and eat their food, then you will lose weight. They advertise on television a lot. So it got me thinking. If their food was really that good and their program really that good then wouldn’t the proof be in the pudding? Word of mouth alone would be their best advertisement. Americans would want to eat their food and lose their weight with them because they would see their family members or friends success. There would be a whole lot less of folks in America because we would participate with their program and be skinny success stories. Changed because it really works.

Commerical two was for a financial program. If you put your money in their service and buy their products, then you will be rich. They advertise on television a lot. So it also got me thinking. If their service was really that good and their products really that good then wouldn’t the proof be in the pudding? Word of mouth alone would be their best advertisement. Americans would want their services and their products because their family and friends had success. There would be a whole lot more folks in American with more money because we would want to participate with their service and products and be wealthy success stories. Changed because it really works.

So now I’m thinking about pudding. I’ve never really liked pudding. I don’t particularly care for the mouthfeel of the stuff. So to even ponder pudding for me is a stretch. I have pudding issues, people!

Product, service, program, or whatever you want to fill in the blank is something that someone with an agenda wants to sell to you. They will benefit. You may or may not benefit. But if you do benefit you are more than likely to tell others around you how you benefitted. You show them your pudding!

So why do we use the lame excuse as believers in Christ Jesus that it is too hard to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ? He is not even selling you something!

Think about it. The Gospel is Good News of Jesus. That means it tells us how and why we need Him. He will benefit our lives and upgrade…gives us eternal life if we confess with our mouth and believe in our hearts that God raised Him from the dead. No shipping or handling to pay for. He has covered the cost by His blood shed on the cross. There are no hidden fees or small print. There is no contract, just a covenant relationship with Him. And as a special bonus, if you act right now, you can have change in your life on this earth! All you have to do is take a step of faith toward Him. He will take it from there. No forms, no calls, no emails or websites. Don’t even need a credit card and it’s not $19.99!

Hello, can I get an Amen! So back to lame pudding. Why don’t you tell others how He has changed you and your life? Why don’t you tell them how He works in you and through you? Why do you think it is enough for people can see your life witness but not tell them about your life and witness that way? Tell them how you have changed and how it really works!

Words have power. God used words and spoke the whole of creation into existence. Don’t you think that is more than proof in some bowl of pudding?

So today, if you belong to Jesus. Reach out with words to one person in your life that does not have a relationship with Him. Tell them by using your words how He has made you whole and new. Words can be heard by their hearts. They hear the flutter in your voice or the passion when you speak. Sincerity comes through as well as the Holy Spirit. All you have to do is participate by word of mouth and share Him. He is the Word, and He will take over and do the rest. God is really that good!

May you tell someone today that you’ve changed because Jesus really works. So tell them about Him! Let them know how they can have an eternal upgrade! (No pudding required!) -Shahe Nahler

God-Knitting

Most people know what “knitting” is. My favorite part of knitting is how you can make something by uniting or causing to unite different materials. A skilled knitter can make a garment. Knitting takes talent. I cannot knit.

But I can tell you with words, how God knits. God is the Maker of the Universe, and He has many more skills and talents than my simple words can express. I will, however, show you one “garment” He has made for my husband and me recently.

Joe had a bump or lump that began to change color and size. We go to the doctor.

Dr. L says that it is a “cyst.” We go to lunch.

The doctor’s office calls and apologizes and asks if we can come back in as soon as possible. The doctor has a “hunch.” We go back to the doctor.

Joe gets a punch biopsy. We go home.

Joe is passed from Dr. L to Dr. C. Knit-one, purl-one.

Dr. C schedules a MOHS procedure. Joe is on the table, prepped for surgery. The doctor starts poking around. The doctor has a ‘hunch.” It’s too big, too complicated. We go home.

Joe is passed from Dr. C to Dr. B. Knit-one, purl-two.

Dr. B schedules multiple days of testing and imaging. Joe has two needle biopsies. The doctor has a “hunch.” It’s cancer and more complicated than his field. We go home.

Joe is passed from Dr. B. to Dr. M. Knit-one, purl-three.

Dr. M is part of a hospital that our insurance does not cover. Time, obstacles, and oh so many “loops” to jump through.

Behind the scene, using His gifts and talents, God knits the timing and the details together. He forms a perfect garment to wrap around us to help us learn to trust Him more.

God knitted the doctors and the insurance and provided in ways that we alone could not have done.

Joe had surgery with Dr. M and it was such a blessing. The cancer was bigger and more complicated than any of the four doctors thought. Joe’s cancer had metastasized but not attached to anything that would cause great complications.

Throughout this whole process, God has been and remains to be the One who is Faithful and True. He is the Great Healer and He is our Father God. He is Enough.

May you trust Him to knit your life-together one garment at a time. God-Won, we did too!

Favor

Proverbs 3 (all of it) says it all. (Don’t just hang on Pro. 3:5-6).

  • We have rested today, napped, and been still. We are both healing. FAVOR.
  • Before we left for our trip to Israel, our insurance would not approve or work with the one doctor and hospital that could do it. We returned from our trip approved for both. FAVOR.
  • Joe met the doctor on Tuesday at 2:30 pm. He was scheduled immediately for surgery the next day (yesterday). FAVOR.
  • The doctor who is a facial cancer tumor specialist reviewed Joe’s case while we were gone, wrote a letter to BCBS stating that he alone would be able to do this for Joe. The insurance company listened. FAVOR.
  • We arrived at the hospital, and this doctors staff was amazing. As they prepped him (because he had not had time to do all the pre-op stuff since the surgery was scheduled so fast), they asked us where we were from. They were so surprised to know that we were locals. They said that people fly in from all over the country for this doctor to be the one to do their surgeries. FAVOR.
  • The doctor said that the surgery would take two hours if…he had to remove cancer from his salivary gland…if he had to remove cancer from the mucous membrane…if he had to remove cancer from the facial muscles…if he had to remove cancer, and he would be left with a “hole” in his cheek…if he had to remove cancer from his lymph nodes…if he had to remove cancer and remove enough that they had to do reconstruction and plastic surgery…HE DID NOT HAVE TO DO ANY OF THE “IF’s!” FAVOR!
  • The doctor said that this mass which had grown significantly since before our trip (last measurement) was amazing to be removed. It had metastasized yet it had not. FAVOR.
  • He said it went so much better than even he expected. FAVOR.
  • Joe is doing really well, joking, resting, eating, and he has not taken any pain meds. FAVOR.
  • The folks that took care of me the night before surgery for pneumonia were a blessing and medicated me so well. FAVOR.
  • We were blessed and encouraged and prayed for and taken great care of all day long. FAVOR.
  • God giving us family in the body of Christ Jesus to lift us up and stand beside us when our arms are tired, and our strength is gone. FAVOR.
  • Thank you all for your kind words and prayers. FAVOR!
  • You really must read all of Proverbs 3. FAVOR.

Favor is from Jesus and because of Jesus. We just benefit and are blessed because we trust in Jesus and He alone deserves all of the glory and honor for the favor that was given to us during this walk with cancer. I don’t know how anyone walks out anything without Jesus!
If you don’t know Jesus the One to Whom both Joe and I belong to and believe in then you need to contact me. Have I got someone to tell you about!

Even finding the perfect picture to put on this blog. FAVOR! -Shahe Nahler

How Do You Do It?

My sweet husband has surgery today. They will remove a cancerous mass that is within his left cheek. It is a very specialized surgery, and we have had to jump through all kinds of hoops for our insurance to approve this very skilled hospital and surgeon.  So many doctors and appointments have led to this surgery. So much time and so many tests have led to this surgery. We have only made it because we have Jesus. We trusted Him with each new doctor, and we have been passed from Dr. Case to Loven to Caudell to Bryant to the new guy. We have been to a half dozen facilities and multiple imaging places. We could never have accomplished this on our own. We didn’t do it on our own, we had Jesus. How do you do it without Jesus?

How do you go from an afternoon appointment on a Tuesday to surgery on a Wednesday? No time to plan or really prepare or even contact all you need to contact? I just turn it over to Jesus and realize that I can’t do it all and I need His help. How do you do it without Jesus?

How do you hand over your sweet husband…again to surgeons to remove more cancer? This will be my fourth opportunity to be at this same hospital and let go of my husband and let God take control. I just remember that I was never in control in the first place and that letting go and letting God is a simple step of faith and trust in Jesus. He is so capable and knows all of our hopes and fears. He knows how much I love my Joe. He loves Joe even more than I do. How do you do it without Jesus?

When God makes a way where there is no way. God tells you to keep pushing for testing because they first thought it was a cyst but God in prayer time keeps telling you that it is more than that. I trusted God’s leading in prayer time. Joe trusted God in His leading in prayer time. We trusted doctors and kept pursuing the “more” that God lead us too, and then someone looks closer and well what do you know, it’s not a cyst it is a metastasized cancerous mass. Part of me wanted to say, “Ha! Told ya.” But I didn’t. That would make me a know it all. Instead, I said, “Praise the Lord,” Because God knows it all! And I said it out loud and for all in the doctor’s office to hear. It surprised the staff. Praise the Lord to find cancer in your husband’s cheek? Nope, praise the Lord that the medical staff found cancer in my husband’s cheek because God already told us it was there. Gotta give Jesus the credit, the glory and all the praise because He alone deserves it. How do you do it without Jesus?

How do you trust that all will be well after surgery? I just do because I trust Jesus. I have no idea of the outcome. There are some serious risks. There are some complications that can cause some problems and they have warned us about them, but they won’t know if they are there until they get in there. Again, I just do because I trust Jesus. Jesus knows me. Jesus knows Joe. Jesus intimately knows and understands every single one of us. He knows the situation and the outcome before it happens. He said the cancer was in there and in the beginning the “educated doctors” said it was a cyst and it was actually cancer. That will happen again with the outcome. The outcome belongs to Jesus. How do you do it without Jesus?

So I guess what I am trying to say on a morning that is a half-hour away from being very busy is this. You don’t know. You can’t do it. You don’t have it all together like you pretend to. You are not as independent and self-sufficient as you pretend either. No one is really an island. No one can be in control of their own lives or others. And you can’t do it without Jesus! It’s just that simple. You can’t! I can’t! We can’t!

It’s like swimming upstream in the river of life. You will never get there without Jesus when you try to get there in your own power, your own skills, and in your own ways. You will only ever be able to “do life” if you do life with Jesus. He is LIFE!

You can ignore Him all you want and be Dory from the Nemo movie and, “just keep swimming.” Or let go and let God have it all, your “all” because He is our All In All.

May you stop struggling, doing, and moving (don’t forget swimming upstream) and start trusting, loving, and resting in Jesus! Peace, people! Victory in Jesus, victory because of Jesus! -Shahe Nahler

This!

It’s 5:30 am, and I am up again. Cup of tea, birds singing in the woods. I was planning to blog about cancer. Cancer will have to wait. I turned on my computer, and I saw this.

https://www.facebook.com/plugins/video.php?href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2FRomaDowney%2Fvideos%2F10156529088919273%2F&show_text=0&width=476“>Link to video here.

Watch this. Watch this a couple of times. I did and after a good ugly cry, I wrote this.

The musician is playing. This little girl is blind and autistic. Her grandmother has to bring her, position her close to the musician. The little girl moves and enjoys the music. A little closer, trust is forming. The musician is very aware of the joy he brings this child. Like a healing balm he ministers to her, loves her, and then he touches her. He gently brings her hand to him. She can feel the vibrations and hear the music. She connects with the musician in a new way. She trusts the musician and knows that she is safe with him. Then this! You watch her relax and rest in the music. She smiles with pure joy and contentment. Peace. All the while the musician plays and loves and heals and brings joy.

If “this” did not melt you and make you cry, then you need “that.”

It took me three books to explain that I needed “that.” But in short, “that” is what you need that you don’t know you need. It’s what your heart wants to ask for but you don’t have the words. It’s what your soul longs for but you can’t put your finger on that. That is the relationship between you and the Most High God. That relationship is precious just like this child.

The musician is Father God. He plays a song that is unique and special for each one of us. We are all the little girl, we all have our own issues. Believers in Christ Jesus need to be like the grandmother to bring others to Father God, help to position them close to the music He plays. We are timid at first, we enjoy what He plays. A little closer, trust if forming. The Great Musician is very aware of the joy He brings each of us. Like a healing Balm of Gilead, He ministers to us, loves us, and He touches us. He gently brings us to Him. We can feel the vibrations and hear His music. We connect with the Father God in a new way. We trust Him and know that we are safe with Him. Then this! We relax and rest in His song of love. We have found that which our soul desires and longs for. We smile with pure joy and contentment. Peace. All the while the Great Musician plays and loves and heals and brings joy. We have a relationship with Father God, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit.

“For the LORD your God is living among you. He is a mighty savior. He will take delight in you with gladness. With his love, he will calm all your fears. He will rejoice over you with joyful songs.” Zephaniah 3:17 (NLT)

If you dont’ have “that” (a relationship with Jesus) then you will never have “this” (a joyful song as you rejoice in your relationship with Jesus).

May you know Him and know “this!” -Shahe Nahler

PS. God’s way to start your day is always better than your own way!

The Good News Came First

Maybe it’s because I feel refreshed and renewed in God’s Word or maybe it is because God has moved in some mighty ways but a few weeks ago I needed a break from social media and blogging and now I can’t stop writing.

It’s time.

He does that with me. I can try to write and nothing happens. I spend quality time with Him and, well, it just flows.

So here is some of the “flow” from Him.

We got home from a long trip to Israel. Before we left, we got bad news which is that my husband has a cancerous mass. We also go more bad news. The specialist that the doctors wanted to send him to for surgery was not covered by our insurance. There was going to be a lengthy process to make this happen. All of this was right before our trip. But God told us that we were going on the trip before we were told Joe had cancer. So we trusted in Him because “the good news came first.”

We went on our trip. God ministered to us on our trip. God loved on and took care of us on our trip. We came home and crashed. After a six-hour nap, we woke up an started to go through the mail and voicemails. We had a voicemail asking for us to confirm an appointment with a doctor that we were not approved for before we left for Israel. We also got a letter from our insurance company that stated that they have approved this specialist doctor and that Joe would be covered for his cancer surgery through the end of the year. What a blessing! God is so good!

We did not make anything happen, God did. We went back to bed and woke up bright and early at 4 am ready to start our day. We unpacked, did laundry, and enjoyed being home in our green woods. Our son brought the mail in. It included a new letter from the insurance telling us that the process of approving his medical doctors and cancer proceedings was still under review and it was saying that this process may take time. This letter had an earlier date than the letter that said he was approved. We double checked. We also realized, “the good news came first.” God did not want us to have the wait letter and worry. He wanted us to come home to answered prayers and know that He has us in His very capable hands.

Now apply this to all life circumstances. The Good News of the Gospel of Christ Jesus came first. From the beginning to the end of the Bible, the Good News of Jesus is always available to us first before the wait, worry, and weary trials. We just have to believe. We just have to have faith.

The Bible says, “But what does it say? “THE WORD IS NEAR YOU, IN YOUR MOUTH AND IN YOUR HEART”—that is, the word of faith which we are preaching, that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved; for with the heart a person believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation. For the Scripture says, “WHOEVER BELIEVES IN HIM WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED.” For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; for the same Lord is Lord of all, abounding in riches for all who call on Him; for “WHOEVER WILL CALL ON THE NAME OF THE LORD WILL BE SAVED.”

How then will they call on Him in whom they have not believed? How will they believe in Him whom they have not heard? And how will they hear without a preacher? How will they preach unless they are sent? Just as it is written, “HOW BEAUTIFUL ARE THE FEET OF THOSE WHO BRING GOOD NEWS OF GOOD THINGS!” Romans 10:8-15

May you first accept the Good News and believe in Jesus and then apply the Good News and know Jesus! He is worth every ounce of faith you can muster. Don’t let the enemy of your soul rob you of your opportunity to have faith, hope, and love!-Because the Good News always comes first! -Shahe Nahler
